hanoi

4.04.2009

next, i spent some time in hanoi where i wandered around, did work in the lobby of my hotel (there was wireless internet there), took an abundance of pictures, drooled over a lot of un-vegetarian food, and picked up some supplies to take back for our malaria programs.

the shortlist of notable things about hanoi include: a#1 the traffic. oh my word, these people could not fit another motorbike into this city if they tried. b#2 the honking. the aformentioned motorbikes all come with horns and they did not go to waste. c#2 and i don't know why i didn't mention this before, the BAKED GOODS and REAL read it, REAL coffee*. (thanks, france! colonialism is bad news, but the desserts are rad!)

*for those of you who have not tried asian "coffee," i'm gonna go ahead and say you can count yourselves as lucky. actually... it's not so bad once you stop expecting it to taste like coffee. it's just this sugary powder substance that comes in a packet shaped like a stick (hence, i refer to it as "stick coffee") and is dissolved in hot water. if you want some, say the word and it's in the mail to you. from me.
